About Flying Fairies
Flying Fairies Culture and Arts Center - Flying Fairies Dance Studio - was founded in 2010 by renowned Chinese dance educators Qiuyue Jin, Di Yu and Huiying Wang in Chicago. The three teachers’ teaching flourished the world of Chinese dance in the greater Chicago area for many decades. In 2016, Mr. Yu and Ms. Wang founded the Seattle Flying Fairies Culture and Arts Center. The Chicago Flying Fairies Dance group continued to be led by Ms. Jin. It won top awards at the International Dance Challenge (IDC) and overseas Taoli Cup Chinese dance competition. Flying Fairies Dance Studio’s performances can be seen in its biennial showcase and many festive events throughout Chicagoland. It remains as one of the audiences’ favorite at the Chicago Navy Pier’s annual Chinese New Year celebrations.

Jo is an experienced dancer and dance teacher with knowledge of different styles of dance. Born and grew up in Taiwan, she received her dance training of both Western dance (Ballet & Modern dance) and traditional Chinese dance through gifted dance programs from grade 7 to 12 and the prestigious Taipei National University of the Arts that was co-funded by the world-renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan’s Artistic Director Hwai-Min Lin. Upon graduation and earning her BFA in dance with a major in Ballet and a minor in Martha Graham technique, she was accepted by Boston Ballet’s summer intensive program with a scholarship. During which time she was fortunate to receive instructions from the great American Ballerina Cynthia Gregory. A year later, Jo entered Texas Christian University on a full scholarship to study for her MFA in dance and had the opportunity to study with Ballet Professor and former guest ballet instructor at Beijing Dance Academy Li-Chou Chen and the late Ballet dancer/teacher Fernado Bujones. After her study at TCU, Jo went to New York city where she performed with professional dance companies and worked with independent choreographers. In 2017, Jo met Ms. Jin and started taking Chinese dance classes with her. Jo is honored to be teaching alongside Ms. Jin and to share her passion and dedication to dance with all their students.
Ocean Wang is originally from Taiwan. She started her dance journey when she was 7 years old. During her arts high school in dance program, she was invited to join Xuejing Youth Dance Company as a lead dancer. She went to Nice and Paris, France for dance study in the summers of 1990 and 1996. Ocean Wang graduated from the Department of Dance at the National Taipei University of the Arts (formerly the National Institute of the Arts). After school, she worked as a tutor and taught Ballet, Modern Dance and Improvisation in dance studios. She has received Rotary Club Arts Scholarship and Taiwan College Scholarship in Dance Art, and has been invited to dance performance tour in Japan and South Korea. She came to the U.S. for the advanced study at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance. In the meantime, she taught Chinese dance at different communities and performed in events. She used to teach Ballet at Portland Community Ballet and took refresher course at José Limón Dance Studio in New York City. She is currently a Chinese dance teacher at Chicago Public School.
